Meet Katye, The Powerhouse Behind Moxy Accounting
Katye Maxson-Landis is irreverent, inquisitive, and professionally skeptical of just about everything. She received her Certified Public Accountant credential in 2011 after working in the salt mines of public accounting for 7 years as an auditor and staff accountant and as a bookkeeper for 10 years before that. She is a problem solver, unafraid of a challenge and is hated by her therapist’s Pomeranian. She’s loyal, generous, interested in advancing the application of accounting for the Cannabis industry to a gold standard and prolific in the art of using colorful colloquialism.
Katye received BA’s in both Technical Theatre (Stage Management) and English literature in 1993 from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. She then enjoyed several years of eclectic careers in food service, speaking loudly and bartending, opportunities that liberal arts degrees typically promote. To name a few seemingly unrelated jobs, she owned an electrical contracting business, worked in currency conversion software support for the roll out of the Euro, coordinated an alternative drug court in Multnomah County and ran several indigent criminal defense firms in Portland Oregon, finally, earning a Post Baccalaureate in Accounting from Portland State University.
She is a mother of two vivacious and often opinionated little girls while somehow remaining married for 20 years. In creating Moxy Accounting, she is working to bring balance to the insane timelines of accounting while acknowledging the importance of humor and professional standards. She is a trusted advisor, professional and business educator, enthusiast and highly sought after CPA. Come by for a cup of tea!
The Moxy Accounting Team
Rachel has been working for Moxy Accounting since 2017 as a bookkeeper– a natural step in her career path following working as a production assistant at a Portland law firm, a massage therapist, a yarn store employee, a self-employed yarn dyer, curator of local art for a SE Portland bar, and a social media/marketing specialist. Not surprisingly, she holds a very valuable B.A in Fine Arts from University of Oregon, an investment that has clearly paid off.
She is the co-founder of the acclaimed A-5 Arts Collective, where she curates annual, juried art shows. She is also the editor-in-chief of a small, but prestigious newspaper.
Her free time is spent being creative and crafting with her two wonderful children. She enjoys knitting, weaving, printmaking, and painting. And television. Lots of television.
She is lovingly called Petunia around the office.
Megan joined the Moxy team in the winter of 2017 to help wrangle all things admin: copious files, stacks of tax returns, Katye’s crazy calendar, accounts payable and accounts receivable. At the office, she finds joy in good organization, the deep satisfaction of checking things off a to-do list and writing snarky things on sticky notes.
A graduate of Portland State University in International Studies, she is always curious about systems and worlds unfamiliar. She pedaled yarn at a local knit shop for six years where she developed a working knowledge of fiber arts, managing a small business and connecting people through education. She has taught knitting and crochet since 2012 and continues to teach classes in the evenings.
When not answering the phone at Moxy or knitting, she is out hiking trails, climbing mountains or riding her bike to the next beer stop.
Staff Accountant, Bookkeeper
Jacqueline joined the Moxy Accounting family in September 2015 and instantly found a home. Jacqueline began her career working for her stepfather’s various companies right out of high school.
She has over 15 years of A/P, A/R, medical billing and bookkeeping experience, working with many different types of business including property management, healthcare, construction and retail.
While away from the office Jacqueline enjoys spending time with her loved ones, camping, live music, reading, gaming, karaoke and supporting various charities.
